Newsletter - August 2008 Edition
Heya, winter has been a busy time here at the shed. Dave, AJ and I have been around Sydney checkin out some wicked gigs. Notable gig was Nucleus, Bellusira, Superb Lyrebird and Sargent Sapphire at the Excelsior Hotel. I caught Bellusira the previous night in Lewisham but arrived late and missed their set on this occasion. My disappointment didn’t last long when Superb Lyrebird hit the stage. The room filled within seconds with anxious fans being turned away from the sold out show, having to watch from the doorway. Make sure you check these guys out: http://www.myspace.com/superblyrebird
The refreshed rockintheshed.com site will be up at the end of the month, which has loads of cool stuff, like, giveaways, frequent rock news and still the best in signed and unsigned rock from around the globe. So jump on and check it out.

All releases are an LP unless otherwise stated.

Kid Rock Accused of Fan Assault

(E!) An encounter with some (former) fans may have left Kid Rock feeling a little punchy, but it also left his onetime worshippers more than a little litigious.
The trio of autograph seekers who first filed a $15 million suit against the Detroit rap-rocker in March over a 2006 skirmish at Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel have amended their complaint, adding additional claims of assault and battery and clarifying allegations of negligence against Rock and his cohorts.
In the new version of the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday, Michael Medlin, Carlos Bonilla and Jose Perez say they were punched and left licking their wounds in front of the hotel-based Teddy’s nightclub following a run-in with Rock, his entourage and members of the Boo-Yaa Tribe.
Wolfmother Split, But Still Alive

(KROQ)Keyboardist/bassist Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett have exited Australian rock act Wolfmother after “longstanding frictions,” but frontman Andrew Stockdale says he will continue the group with new members.
“Please understand that in spite of their best efforts over a long period of time, they just could not find a harmonious way to work together,” reads a statement from Universal Music Australia.
Wolfmother exploded onto the scene with its self-titled 2006 debut, which has sold 517,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It launched the rock radio hits “Woman” and “Joker and the Thief.” The former song won a Grammy for best hard rock performance.
Following extensive touring in support of the album, Wolfmother went on hiatus late last year, emerging in April to roadtest new songs. But band member tensions remained, and following last weekend’s appearance at the Australia’s Splendour in the Grass festival, the decision was reached to split up.
Is Death Magnetic Really “Old School?”

(FMQB) There has been a lot of talk about Metallica’s new album, Death Magnetic, being a return to the band’s classic roots. Drummer Lars Ulrich has been quoted in the past as saying the album would be comparable to Master Of Puppets, which has always been the gold standard for hard core Metallica fans. So with all this chatter about a return to form, what can fans really expect?
“The last thing I want is someone to think, ‘Oh, they had to go back to Puppets because that was the best album, and they’re doing it because we want it.’ If we start writing songs for our fans, something’s gone wrong,” frontman James Hetfield told MTV News. “The fans may think they know best, but hey, I’m the armchair quarterback when I’m watching my team too. At the end of the day, we have to write it because we love it and it’s coming from our heart. That’s why people connect with it. If you start doing it for the fans, you’ve lost the plot.”
However, Hetfield does acknowledge that Metallica did try to find its way back to that Puppets mind-set, and producer Rick Rubin was a big part of that. “His mission statement was to get to the essence of Metallica,” Hetfield added. “He told us, ‘Think back to Master Of Puppets — what were you doing? What were you thinking? What were your influences? What bothered you? What was around you? Where did that hunger come from?’ And that was a little bit of homework for us that was a little impossible to get to. You could dress up like you’re in 1986, [but] you just can’t be there again. We’ve been through so much — you can’t erase the learning we’d done. What made sense to us was the hunger, the quest to impress. [Rubin] said, ‘You’re going to write a set list. Your next album is a set list of your best songs, and you’re going to try and go get signed, do a showcase and impress people.’ And that was a great mission statement for us.”
Death Magnetic will be in stores on September 12.
Fred Durst Is Still Alive

(KROQ) So, we’re screwing around on the Web and we came across Tom Green’s wesbite, which surprised us since we haven’t heard from him in what seems like a decade. Tom has apparently set up a TV studio in his living room high atop the Hollywood Hills and interviews celebs on a somewhat regular basis. As we scrolled through some of his previous celebrity interviews, we stumbled upon his sit-down with none other than Fred Durst.
If you’re like us and you fiendishly enjoyed the rise and fall of Limp Bizkit and its frontman, you won’t be able to tear your eyes off this video. The dude looks like he’s 90 freakin’ years old… If you can get past the beard and glasses (props for his upcoming movie Play Dead), you’ll find the interview fascinating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNtEtFz6wO4&feature

A Process Of
*-
A PROCESS OF are a Melbourne based four piece band, with the line-up complete at the start of 2004. Brad, Dave and Craig had been writing and arranging material for most of 2003, and were auditioning vocalists for sometime. When Pete (Call&Response/Tricity/Menendez) stepped up and asked to try out, it was obvious right from the start he was perfect for the job.
Since the release of their debut EP in 2004, A PROCESS OF have received some glowing reviews from Beat and Blunt magazines, and an awesome response from their intense live shows.
A Process Of are currently in the final stages of pre-production for their debut album, which will begin recording in June 08.
